Plastic Free July 2024
In July, we are reminded of the critical role each of us plays in reducing plastic pollution. Plastic Free July, a global movement encouraging millions of people to reduce their plastic waste, is an opportunity for businesses and individuals alike to reassess their environmental impact and make sustainable choices.
Plastic pollution is a pressing environmental issue. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans, harming marine life and ecosystems. Plastic Free July is more than just a month-long challenge; it’s a catalyst for long-term change, promoting the reduction of single-use plastics and encouraging sustainable living.
The Bear Factory is excited to participate in Plastic Free July 2024 at our North American headquarters in Michigan. We hope you’ll join us, sign up to take the challenge.
In 2022, 50% of our plush was made from recycled polyester and 100% of our plush was filled with recycled polyester. Now in 2024 65% of our Plush line is made from recycled fabrics. We are actively working towards plastic reduction by incorporating recycled PET stuffing for our plush toys, which diverts plastic waste from landfills. Additionally, we use biodegradable packaging to minimize our environmental impact. Our commitment extends to comprehensive recycling programs and energy-efficient operations, ensuring we lead by example in sustainability.
Tip 1. Conduct a Plastic Audit
Begin your Plastic Free July journey by conducting a thorough audit of your business’s plastic use. Identify areas where single-use plastics are prevalent and explore alternatives. This initial step is crucial in understanding the scope of plastic dependency and creating a targeted action plan.
Tip 2. Engage Your Team
Form an internal sustainability team to spearhead your Plastic Free July initiatives. Encourage employees from various departments to join and contribute ideas. This team can help brainstorm solutions, implement changes, and keep the momentum going throughout the month and beyond.
Tip 3. Educate and Inspire
Education is a powerful tool. Host workshops or informational sessions about the environmental impact of plastic pollution and the benefits of reducing plastic waste. Provide resources and tips on how employees can make sustainable choices both at work and in their personal lives.
Tip 4. Switch to Sustainable Alternatives
Replace single-use plastics with eco-friendly alternatives. Consider switching to biodegradable packaging, reusable containers, and other sustainable materials. This change not only reduces plastic waste but also sends a positive message to your customers about your commitment to sustainability.
Tip 5. Partner with Like-Minded Organizations
Collaborate with organizations and suppliers who share your sustainability goals. Partnering with like-minded businesses can amplify your impact and provide additional resources and support for your Plastic Free July initiatives.
Tip 6. Share Your Progress
Transparency is key. Share your Plastic Free July journey with your customers and stakeholders. Use social media, newsletters, and your website to highlight the steps you’re taking to reduce plastic waste. This not only builds trust but also encourages others to join the movement.
Tip 7. Celebrate and Reflect
At the end of the month, celebrate your achievements and reflect on the lessons learned. Recognize the efforts of your team and the positive changes made. Use these insights to continue your sustainability journey beyond July, making plastic reduction a permanent part of your business operations.
