How CARM Affects Your Bear Factory Order.
Canada has introduced the CARM (Canada Automated Import Reference Model) system to simplify the import process. We want to ensure you’re up to date on how this affects your orders from The Bear Factory:
What’s Changing?
- Before CARM: Shipments were cleared by FedEx under their Surety Bond, meaning duties and taxes weren’t paid upfront and could be cleared at the border without delay.
- After CARM: Customs brokers can no longer clear shipments using their own surety bond. Duties and taxes must now be paid before shipments can clear the border and be delivered.
What Should You Do?
- By Using FedEx Ground or Express for shipping, you will still get brokerage services, but you must ensure duty and taxes are paid before your shipment arrives at the border.
- If you’re using a custom broker for freight orders, speak with them to understand how CARM will impact your shipment.
How to Stay on Track:
Register with CARM: Make sure you’re signed up with CARM and have set up your payment options. Doing this before you place your order will keep your order on track, if you wait until after your order is placed you will likely experience border delays. In this case FedEx may reach out to you please follow their instructions to ensure smooth delivery.

While we do our best to stay aware of customs compliance and changes to import laws, we are by no means experts on Canadian customs or imports. For more information: Visit the CARM Section of the CBSA website, email the CARM Engagement Team or contact your customs broker / third party service provider, if you use one.
